RHYTHM & DRUM WORKSHOPS
for workplaces, groups and organisations

A rhythm or drum workshop is a popular activity for social and well-being groups and makes a fun and effective team session in a workplace or organisation, or even a birthday party to remember! Rhythm making is an excellent community builder, it's inclusive, and a great reliever of stress.  Energising yet calming.  For grown-ups of all ages to get involved and share in the joy.

Please get in touch if you would like me to facilitate an 'in person' session for you in the Taunton/Bridgwater/Weston-super-Mare/Wells/Cheddar area of Somerset. All you need to provide is a space and some seating.  I bring the instruments to your venue, along with a big smile.
The workshops that I hold are for an hour or so.  I share a few snippets of information on drumming and rhythm making; then having taken a look at the instruments, we get playing and find our 'beat' as a group with some simple rhythm activities; next we learn some specific rhythm patterns, and then weave them together to create something quite magical!  And then if time permits, a freestyle jam together.
THERE ARE CHOICES!  Depending on the size of your group, the type of folks that you are, your venue ...

None of workshops require any previous experience in music making of any kind.

Not sure what would be best for your group? Let me know the vibe and dynamic of your group, and what you would like to achieve or experience, and we'll chat and decide together.
RHYTHM WORKSHOP for up to 30 people - Playing a mixture of different percussion instruments (bells, shakers, drums, wood etc).  With plenty of rhythmic fun and 'games', and simple rhythms to weave together to create some magic. Versatile, great fun and sounds amazing!

BUFFALO DRUMMING WORKSHOP for up to 15 people - Playing Native American style drums, with rattles and other sounds too.  A gentle, intentional workshop, with themes such as peace, the Moon, Mother Earth, or a healing goal with some animal medicine beats, such as igniting the fire in our belly (dragon), or drumming up confidence and vision (eagle), or patience and transformation (dragonfly).  Very often I include some singing/chanting alongside the drumming.

DJEMBE DRUMMING WORKSHOP for up to 12 people - Learning the basic technique of the globally popular West African style Djembe Drums and playing some fun 'say it and play it' grooves together.  Very energising!   (Larger groups can also be accommodated with smaller djembe drums.)
NATURE CONNECTION WORKSHOP for up to 15 people - Playing a mixture of different drums along with natural percussion instruments, with the specific goal of feeling the 'bigger picture' of rhythm, its place in nature, and its healing effects.  Ideal in an OUTDOOR setting, (providing rain or wind does not stop play!).

The drums that I have are all vegan friendly.
NEW FOR 2022!
BUCKET DRUMMING WORKSHOP for up to 12 people - Loud and lively, and lots of laughs!  Bucket Drumming is exactly what is says - drumming on plastic buckets using drum sticks, learning the technique to make the sounds, adding in some tin cans, and getting the 'Garbage Groove' on the move!  This workshop is suitable for ages 14+ when accompanied by an adult.

My fee is currently £95 for a workshop, and includes travel within ten miles of my home near Highbridge. (65p per mile thereafter.)

Maybe Zoom would work better for your group? A Junk & Drum Circle is the answer! Buckets, tin cans ... getting creative with household items (junk percussion!) could even be part of the experience for your group.  Bring them to the Zoom room for a Zoom meeting like no other!  A great way to bring your group together in the virtual space.
Zoom drum circles are great for adults with learning disabilities.  I have been working in this way a lot over the past  couple of years, and have a fun programme of grooves, songs and activities.  If you are a day care service provider then please get in touch to find out more.
